Fused Glass: Exploring Transparency, Layering and Composition
Instructor: Scott Avidon
Grades 5 - 12 & Adult
Saturdays 12:30 - 3:30 pm
Glass is an extraordinary material that offers a myriad of opportunities to explore and manifest one’s own creative expression. This course will focus exclusively on transparent glass (as opposed to opaque glass) as the means to expand your understanding of layering, transparency, color theory and composition. Ideas, objects, images and words that inspire you will serve as the jumping off point for creating multi-layered fused glass panels of your own designs. You will create panels for wall mounting or form them into functional plates, platters or bowls. You do not need any prior glass working experience to take this course. You will learn the basics of glass cutting, fusing and slumping plus many other aspects of kiln-formed glass in this course. The aim for this course is that students will develop a passion to continue exploring transparent fused glass as a means for individual artistic expression.
Disclaimer: Glass art uses cutting, fusing and slumping techniques that can produce sharp edges on glass pieces. Students should be aware that they may get cut on occasion and should use all safety precautions.
Pricing also includes $50 Initial glass and firing fees. Additional glass must be purchased individually.
