HS Credit for Summer Art Studies - 1 Credit
Anatomy and Structure - Figure Drawing = Science Credit or 2D Art Credit
Grades 8 - 12
Instructor: Daina Stabluniece
Monday - Friday 9 AM - 4 PM
The artistic understanding of the human form is a lifetime of study. Anatomy and structure (the study and analysis of the skeleton and muscular structure of the human figure) is learned through the use of live models, as well as reference to the skeleton and muscle structure. Students will understand the proportions of the human form through the study of the skeletal and muscle structure; this knowledge is then applied to the artist's interpretation of human proportions. Models perform dynamic gestural poses as well as extended poses. Instructors work intensely with students to develop drawing skills, engage them in the understanding of the human form and how to view it's physical characteristics. The study of the human form, still life and landscapes greatly enhance observational skills, drawing skills, and creative expression and is an essential component for a visual artist. The fundamental techniques of figure drawing / painting are taught; practical color theory is applied, including paint handling, surface preparation, color mixing and self-expression. High school students work primarily in oils and are required to purchase their own oil paints, turpenoid, brushes; care and handling of these materials will be stressed. Critique, group discussion and individual attention occurs on a daily basis. Portfolio development will be emphasized for students in grades 11-12, with the understanding that drawing is the backbone of every successful college admission portfolio.
For grade satisfaction, students will need to submit a portfolio of their artwork and will need to demonstrate to the instructor mastery of knowledge of the skeletal and muscle structure of human anatomy.
