Stone Soup For Modern Times

July 6 - 17  Monday - Friday 1 PM - 4 PM

Would you like to learn how to create an original theater piece?  Would you like to tell stories about things that matter?

The class is based very loosely on the story "Stone Soup".  The tale explores community and conflicts between selfishness and generosity.  Each class will explore character development, storytelling and scene creation.  then the story will be updated to modern times to create a piece about immigration reform, class and the politics of exclusion.  The work will lead up to a performance.

The Many Me's of Theater

July 20 - 31  Monday - Friday 9 AM - 12 PM

How many personalities are inside you?  Do you change in different settings?  Actually, we all do.  When you are with friends aren't you different than when you take care of a young family member?  What kinds of characters are easy and which ones require a stretch?  A blend of improv games, storytelling, character development, puppetry, scene work and the creation of monologues will be at the heart of this class.

The art of gentle critique from the group will help students grow themselves as actors, writers, and people.  This class will not end in performance in order to promote a non-pressured exploration.
