FLEXIBLE TIME PERIODS ON
Art education directly aligns with many of the reasons you decided to homeschool: *
To provide long, uninterrupted blocks of time for thinking or working so the child is able to engage in sophisticated, complex activities and thought processes.
To encourage concentration and focus (often not possible in crowded classrooms)
To allow the child to pace him/herself.
To help children learn to work for internal satisfaction rather than external rewards.
To encourage children with special needs to reach their full potential and not be limited by “cookie cutter” educational methods.

Studies show that benefits of arts education include the following:**
Stimulates and develops the imagination and critical thinking; refines cognitive and creative skills.
Strengthens problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, adding to overall academic achievement.
Teaches life skills such as developing an informed perception; articulating a vision; learning to solve problems and make decisions; building self-confidence and self-discipline; developing the ability to imagine and create; and accepting responsibility to complete tasks from start to finish.
Plays a crucial role in improving students’ abilities to learn, because they draw on a range of intelligences and learning styles, not just linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences upon which most schools are based.
Provides a safe environment for constructive feedback that opens students to learning, improving performance and self-discipline, a character trait sought after in higher education and the workplace.
Develops collaborative abilities that include working together, sharing responsibility, compromising to achieve a common goal, along with appreciation for the contributions of others and accountability.
Develops healthy work habits that include a respect for time, foresight, planning and organization.
Develops dedication, work ethic and desire to attain a certain level integrity in the resulting work product.
